The Indiana Choice Voucher Program was launched in 2011 by former Governor Mitch Daniels. Today it is still one of the largest private school voucher systems in the country. Since that time, the program has continued to expand, increasing the income threshold exponentially. In 2025, Indiana lawmakers approved HB 1001, which removed the final income gap, opening voucher access to 100% of Indiana families, regardless of income. This change makes “universal” private school fully active effective July 1, 2026, with the average annual voucher averaging over $6,200. Children living in the Kokomo Schools district receive one of the highest vouchers in the state at over $7200. Vouchers are available for all students at RLS in grades Kindergarten through eighth grades.
The Lutheran Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) program allows individuals and businesses to reduce or eliminate their state taxes by funding scholarships for families wanting a quality, Christian education. Through generous donations by the members of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and other area Lutheran churches, we are able to provide additional scholarships for families beyond the Indiana Choice Voucher Program. These are needs-based scholarships for RLS students in pre-Kindergarten through eighth grades. These are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Copies of the family’s current tax returns are required by law.
